Integrating greenhouses with community activities to form a healthy and safe neighborhood.
Mott Haven is a community with rich cultural heritage and optimistic people looking for opportunities and change. One of the major food distributors, hunts point, is located in the Bronx yet Mott haven is still categorized as a food desert. The differences in the various geographic locations of the community are the reasons for much of its crime. Through the example of the friends of Brook Park we have identified food as a common factor that can solve many social problems in this community. Having a centralized production unit for green house manufacturing and growth of vegetables will not only increase the economic conditions of the neighborhood but also will give people more access to fresh food and better health. Based on the shadow study and the existing land use zoning we have identified ideal spaces in NYCHA campuses to grow food. We then looked into how these places can also be programmed as venues that the community can use as amenities. All the green houses implemented in the community will be a modular design that can easily be manufactured and transported.
