[4]Group06 – Industrial Resolution

Waste is not garbage. Waste is anything that is perceived to have unfulfilled
potential and can include space, agency, labor, and infrastructure. This project
engages the changing industrial sector in NYC, and examines the waste that
such changes can generate and consume.

The site’s Shed is comprised of land owned by various city agencies, including
the Brookyln Navy Yard Development Corporation, the New York City Housing
Authority, and the Department of Transportation. This large contiguous site
illuminates the inefficiencies generated by contending city agencies while
ignoring the potential of the entire shed.

Our Proposal offers two prototypes for a new industrial fabric that connects
these city entities to each other’s resources, thereby strengthening NYC’s
contemporary industrial sector in a way that complements, rather than conflicts
with, its adjacent residential communities.
